Ian Crettenden

Ian joined HPA at the start of 2020 following an accomplished career in data and analytics, filling senior management roles at State and Commonwealth Government levels.

Most recently, Ian led the Australian Government Health Department Analytics team. In this role, Ian led studies assessing the causes and variation in clinical care across health and aged care, the development of an innovative tool to assess health workforce needs in different regions and helped establish major improvements to the data infrastructure in the department. Ian also established and led the analysis and planning function in Australia’s national health workforce agency.

Broader than health, Ian has held senior roles in the Australian Bureau of Statistics, responsible for significant national data collections on migrants and Indigenous peoples in areas of social concern such as health, education, and crime and justice.

Throughout his career, Ian has been responsible for the creation of innovative analytical and decision support tools including projection models for health administration, wide ranging linked data analytics for justice and courts administration including micro-simulations, and judicial decision making including methods to assist in sentencing decisions.
Ian brings even more experience and understanding of health, data analytics, and government processes to HPA; particularly in the area of aged care.
