Project objectives

The purpose of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Performance Framework Report was to monitor progress in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes, health system performance and the broader determinants of health. HPA supported the production of the 2006, 2008 and 2010 Reports.

Our approach

The preparation of the 2006 report was undertaken within a tight timeframe with extensive consultation. HPA reviewed literature, developed visualisations of the data for the report (analysis was undertaken by the AIHW), drafted the textual content of the report including discussion of why each indicator was important, interpreting the key issues identified in the data and discussing the policy implications. The preparation of the report required extensive knowledge of the issues impacting the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and need for services.

For the 2008 and 2010 reports, HPA facilitated a series of national workshops (in Alice Springs, Melbourne and Canberra) through which the material was discussed and refined. One of the aims of the workshops was to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people had appropriate opportunities to provide input.

Outcome

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Performance Framework reports have been an important reference forĀ  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes, health system performance and the broader determinants of health.
